Sky Map is a hand-held planetarium for your Android device. Use it to identify stars, planets, nebulae and more.

Originally developed as Google Sky Map, it has now been donated and open sourced.

The Map doesn't move/points in the wrong place
Make sure you haven't switched into manual mode. Does your phone have a compass? If not, Sky Map cannot tell your orientation. Look it up here:

Try calibrating your compass by moving it in a figure of 8 motion or as described here
Are there any magnets or metal nearby that might interfere with the compass? Try switching off "magnetic correction" (in settings) and see if that is more accurate.

Why is autolocation not supported for my phone?
In Android 6 the way permissions work has changed. You need to enable the location permission setting for Sky Map as described here:

The Map is jittery
Try adjusting the sensor speed and damping (in settings). We have a better solution coming soon!

Do I need an internet connection?
No, but some functions (like entering your location manually) won't work without one. You'll have to use the GPS or enter a latitude and longitude instead.

Can I help test the latest features?
Sure! Join our beta testing program and get the latest version.

Would rate zero/5 stars if I could. Even GPS on, the direction line is aligned with the Polaris' and not the horizon. Planets have not moved in months... Loved this app but now it's utterly useless. Have to uninstall.

Stopped working correctly. Used to work well, now west is east and it won't turn when I turn the phone.

Oh Dear
Haven't used this app for years, since my original HTC Desire. It used to be spot on back then. Just installed it on my HTC One to try and work out what planet I'm looking at but it's absolutely useless. It jumps around and points to completely the wrong area of the sky (i know this because it says I'm looking at the moon but the moon is at least 90 degrees away)

I loved this app but for some reason on my new phone (maybe android 5.0.1) it does not work well. The image is jumpy and does not follow where I point the phone. As if the gyro is out of sync with this application

4 years without an update? Does Google even support this anymore? Click on "visit website" here and it loops back to this page. This app had so much potential 4 years ago. Now, not so much. Doesn't even say "Google Sky" anymore. Just "Sky map".

The app Used my location/GPS to see stars and planets around me. It was fun to hold my phone upright. I saw the moon outside my door, so I held my phone up to the moon and it showed the moon on the screen surrounded by planets and stars. Plus all the constellations around the moon and planets. I'll be keeping this app. Thank you Google :) now I get a better sense of where I am in my galaxy. I get to learn too.

Love it
I have been using this for several years and am very happy with it. Yes, at times I'll hold it facing West and it will show the northern or southern sky but, I put the blame for that on the phone. When it's acting screwy, I wait a few minutes and it usually gets back on track.

This app is great/brilliant, but it has a lacking set of features when you f.ex can't do a search on a note4 because of a "missing" menu button. 2stars until this issue is addressed. Longpress the recent apps softkey solved it :)

Not accurate anymore
Not sure why, but it seems like I hasn't been accurate for quite some time now. Especially since I got the Galaxy s5.

Needs an update...
I've used Sky map on two previous devices with good results. Now I'm using it on a Droid Maxx, and having issues. Despite having GPS location on, it had me viewing from somewhere else. Had to enter my location manually. It also fails to update the time automatically so you end up viewing the sky as it was last time the app was used. Had to open the "time travel" panel and toggle another time on then return to "now." You can make it work, but its inconvenient.

No SEARCH tool available
I haven't been using this for a long time because I cannot find anywhere to search for a planet or star. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, but the same thing happened. It's worthless without the search tool. Does anyone know how to get this thing working? Or if someone knows you better have please let me know. Thank you...using the Galaxy S5...Stu

Works as intended
Using MotoG and I don't have problems with this as long as the GPS is on. The search function is awesome! As others have pointed out, few nice features would be long clicking something to get more info about it, and showing artificial things like ISS for example.

Awesome app.
I don't care what anybody says, it's awesome. Make sure your GPS is turned and your lens is clean and scratch free. It works great.

Doesn't work anymore!
The app used to work but after the updates it no longer works properly. Point at the Big Dipper and it points to Uranus. Point at Orion and it says I am pointing at Andromeda. Needs to be fixed!!!

Turn your location on!
Great app! Didn't work properly at first, and read other reviews that had the same problem. But then I turned my location on and now it works perfectly!
